Summer is here, and it’s time for outdoor barbecues, vacations, and get-togethers.  Our friends over at EatingWell compiled some data and predicted the following five food trends to look out for in the food and beverage realm this season:

Pickling

Gardening saw a huge boost while we were all stuck at home during the pandemic, and now, EatingWell predicts that people will be looking to enjoy all of their homegrown produce without it going to waste.  This is where pickling comes in.  EatingWell.com reportedly saw a 17% increase year over year in views of pickled vegetables, and they expect it to continue to rise throughout the season.  Want to learn more about pickling?  Check out our latest post.

Vegetable Salads

Forget your traditional salad.  This summer, the article predicts that seasonal vegetables like cucumbers, corn and broccoli, will be everyone’s perfect summer side dish.    According to EatingWell, broccoli salads saw a tremendous 333% increase in views year over year while cucumber salads saw a 160% increase in views year over year.

Happy Hour at Home

This year, EatingWell predicts that happy hours at home will be on the rise.  With so many different beverages to choose from, this trend will allow people to be creative as they build upon the home bartending skills they developed while attending all of those virtual happy hours last year.  EatingWell.com saw a 73% increase in views year over year for cocktail recipes and articles, and they expect that to continue as more and more people enjoy reuniting with their friends and family!   Looking for a perfect cocktail to make at home?  Try this delicious Blueberry Margarita recipe

Grilled Vegetables

We’re all about grilling vegetables over here at Lajollacooks4u, so we’ll happily embrace this trend!  From eggplant to corn to peppers, grilled vegetables saw a 51% increase in views year over year, according to EatingWell.  Healthy and delicious, grilled vegetables are a perfect addition to any summertime meal.

Non-Dairy Ice Cream

Non-dairy ice cream has become all the rage lately.  With a 42% increase in views year over year for “nice cream” recipes, EatingWell predicts people will be swapping out the dairy for alternatives made with coconut milk or oat milk.
