This is a South African recipe and is so delicious!  Perfect to make for Mom this weekend for Mother’s Day.

What You’ll Need:

2 cups whole-wheat flour

1 cup cracked wheat (if not available you can use bran wheat flour)

1 cup roasted sunflower seeds (salted or unsalted)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

3 Tablespoons honey

2 cups buttermilk

Poppy or sesame seeds, for sprinkling

What to Do:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Combine flour, cracked wheat, sunflower seeds and salt.

In a separate bowl add baking soda and honey to buttermilk, whisk until blended, let stand a few minutes.

Add buttermilk mixture to dry ingredients and mix well.

Pour into a greased loaf pan. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.

Bake for 30 minutes. Turn oven off and leave for another 5 minutes.  (In my oven I bake bread for 30 minutes and let sit for 5 minutes).

Enjoy!
