What You Can Do Now to Prep for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, but it’s not too early to start prepping for it!  Take out a lot of the stress of the Big Day by doing what you can now – you will be happy you did the work up front!

Review your Recipes

It’s time to start coming up with a game plan and planning out your Thanksgiving menu.  Once you’ve determined what recipes you will use, print them out!  Then when the cooking begins, you can simply tape them to your cabinets, rather than constantly having to look at your phone or peer into a cookbook.

Check Your Inventory

Don’t forget to check your tools and utensils to make sure you have enough of what you need for the Big Day.  Also, remember to check the freshness dates of your spices, such as cinnamon, vanilla extract, and nutmeg, as well as baking staples, such as flour and baking soda, to ensure you have enough to cover all the cooking.

Do a Grocery Run

Now that you have an idea of what dishes you’ll be preparing, start a list of ingredients you’ll need to purchase at the store.  For those non-perishable items, purchase them now so you don’t have to worry about them being out of stock during the Thanksgiving week rush.

Clean the Oven

Get this out of the way early! A clean oven cooks food more evenly, and if you’ve ever needed an oven to work properly, Thanksgiving is the time.

Plan Your Tablescape

Thanksgiving is such a big holiday and it’s only natural to want everything to look great.  Depending on how many people you will be hosting, start planning the décor at the table and visualizing how many seats you will need.  After that, start planning out the dishware you will use, as well as centerpieces, flowers, and tablecloths.
