This September was met with fresh new faces, intimate cooking classes, and exciting celebrations. Lajollacooks4u welcomed families searching for unique bonding experiences and novice home-cooks eager to transform into gourmet chefs. Simultaneously, Chef Jodi celebrated holidays and accomplishments, rounding off a pleasantly busy month at Lajollacooks4u.
Mother and son duo, Carol and Ryan Freeman-Bueller, were some of the first visitors to Lajollacooks4u this month. The two traveled from Calgary, Alberta, making a delicious stop in Chef Jodi's gorgeous Tuscan-villa for an evening of good eats and unforgettable memories.
Carol and Ryan started with a Lajollacooks4u antipasti favorite: Focaccia with Fresh Roasted Tomato Sauce and Burrata. The Focaccia tasted great alongside an Avocado and Mango Salad with Spiced Nuts in a Parmesan Basket and a carefully paired Pinot Gris. DELICIOSO…and that was only their first course! They followed the Hors D'oeuvres with a beautiful Herb Crusted locally caught Durado in a Caper Vinaigrette, Cacio de Pepe, Sautéed Broccolini and Portobello, and finally, Chocolate Melting Cakes for dessert.
Chef Jodi was so grateful to have such a lovely family in her kitchen. They had a wonderful time sharing about Ryan's successful hockey career and Chef Jodi's highly anticipated cookbook.
Chef Jodi wasn't the only one who had a fabulous time, Carol had so many nice things to say about their hands-on cooking and dining experience. Carol went on to TripAdvisor afterwards and wrote such a kind testimonial: "My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening cooking, conversing, drinking wine, and eating a fabulous meal that we prepared with Jodi. The setting was awesome with a view of the ocean…I will definitely be recommending for friends to include this in their plans while visiting San Diego…I loved that the fish we cooked which was purchased that day from a local fisherman - can not get any fresher than that! Thanks Jodi for a fabulous evening, one we will not forget. Looking forward to your cookbook."
Private hands-on cooking classes have really heated up at Lajollacooks4u. Locals seeking a chance to learn the how-to's of becoming gourmet chefs at home are able to do so with the help of culinary guru, Chef Jodi.
We picked up right where we left off with Bird Rock resident, Patty Uribe. Patty has been a cooking class veteran of Lajollacooks4u for months now. She and Chef Jodi plan bi-monthly themed cooking classes. One of this month's favorite themes? PEANUT BUTTER and CHOCOLATE.
Chef Jodi helped Patty bake off some unique recipes that play on the classic peanut butter-chocolate combo, like a Peanut Butter and Honey Tart with a Ganache Glaze and a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake with a Salted Caramel Glaze. Is your mouthwatering yet?
Alongside the delicious Peanut Butter and Chocolate desserts, Chef Jodi and Patty whipped up Sticky Toffee Pudding, Chocolate Salami, and Classic Florentines. Mmm!
The afternoon cooking session was undoubtedly delicious and full of sweet surprises. Can't wait to see what's in store for the next gourmet session with Patty!
Patty Uribe wasn't the only one receiving private hands-on cooking lessons with Chef Jodi. Local engineer, Chris Young, contacted Chef Jodi in hopes of improving his palette and his skill set. Chris was a novice to at-home cooking, so Chef Jodi made sure to give him the culinary play by play. By the end of the cooking session, Chris and Chef Jodi had prepared several delicious dishes, including a Marinated Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce, Rib Eye Steak with an Herb Mustard Seed Rub, Quinoa with Black Beans, Corn and Zuchinni, and a Broccoli Saute with Mushrooms and Cannellini Beans. Chris said" Chef Jodi has now made me a lover of quinoa!"
This was an incredibly celebratory month for Lajollacooks4u and Chef Jodi. Chef Jodi not only celebrated Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur at home with her family, but she also reunited with the cookbook production team for an evening of gourmet food, Italian wine, and reminiscing.
Chef Jodi is her family's go-to for holiday celebration food. She puts together magical feasts brimming with a fusion of Jewish comfort foods and Californian favorites unlike any other.
From classic potato Latkes to bountiful platters of fresh Californian produce, Chef Jodi is always pleasing her guest's palettes with the best of the best.
Just look at these fish cakes made with locally fresh-caught fish! You can't get any better than that...
Celebrations didn't end there…Chef Jodi gathered up her cookbook production team for an elegant dinner at one of her favorite restaurants, Davanti Enoteca in Del Mar. The production team is comprised of several amazing ladies who had really put their hearts and souls into making Chef Jodi's dream come to life. The team is photographer, Chelsea Carpenter; cover designer and manager of media relations and marketing, Dani Peterson; book designer, Nancy Ratkiewich; former assistant and cookbook production initiator, Sara Bostrand; and food stylist, Lisa Serban - who unfortunately could not attend the wrap party after her recent move to Las Vegas.
The team was so excited to get back together to pour over the first printed proof of the Lajollacooks4u cookbook. Everyone was so amazed at the turn-out, even adjacent restaurant goers and waiters walked over to snag a sneak peak at the book.
"The Lajollacooks4u cookbook is stunning", said Dani. "There is a little something in here for everyone, whether you're a foodie, a photographer or a graphic designer. This book is a work of art come to life. I can't wait for everyone to get a little taste of California with this cookbook!"
Stay tuned for the cookbook! Pre-order the cookbook today directly through Chef Jodi or keep an eye on our web site where we will be adding a tab that allows you to purchase the cookbook directly from our website. The page should be up within the month and the book will arrive in November!
