The month of June was a lovely warm-up for our hot hot summer here in San Diego. Lajollacooks4u welcomed groups big and small for team-building and home-cooking classes alike. And while we may have been busy greeting new faces, we've been cooking up a special surprise for our fans on the side… our first ever cookbook!!
The month started off strong with a team-building event featuring Illumina's international Agrigenomics department. Market Development Director, Mike Thompson, contacted Chef Jodi in May hoping for a unique hands-on experience...and they were not disappointed.
As the group sampled gourmet olive oil and fine salts, they gushed over Chef Jodi's beautiful garden and all of the in-season eats, from sweet snap peas to swiss chard to ripe apples, believe it or not! They were quick to bond with Chef Jodi over their shared interest in farm-to-table eating, a major component of the Lajollacooks4u brand.
After mingling, everyone moved into the kitchen where they divided into two teams to prepare a beautiful five-course meal. Some of the highlights included an Avocado and Mango Salad in a Parmesan Cheese Basket, a Smoked Salmon with a Basil Mustard Sauce, and a stunning Lemon Crème Brule Tart with Fresh Raspberries. Chef Jodi appreciated the warmth and excitement from the group. Their enthusiasm was definitely a testament to the unique and captivating experience that is Lajollacooks4u. Not a single team member left without a smile. Team member, Britton Miller, was very pleased with the team building event. “This was the best cooking experience I have ever had,” said Miller. “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the team building activities; a big thank you to Chef Jodi for such a fabulous time.”
The end of the month was celebrated by a delightful home-cooking class with the Firtel family, a great group from all over Southern California.
Mother, Judy, visited Lajollacooks4u several months ago with another friend where she had an unforgettable Tapas class with Chef Jodi. Judy was so impressed with the class that she went home and told her husband, Rick, that she wanted to celebrate her upcoming birthday at Lajollacooks4u!
Rick contacted Chef Jodi a couple months ago and together they planned Judy's birthday celebration, complete with family and, of course, delicious food! Judy's three sons and their wives traveled down to join in on the fun. And boy was it fun!
Everyone, Chef Jodi included, had an amazing time with loads of laughs and plenty of goofing off. But all jokes aside, their 5-course meal was a scrumptious treat, featuring an Herb Crusted Chicken with a Caper Vinaigrette and a delicious, seasonal Plum Tart. YUM. Rick even brought his own wine, a family favorite, just perfect for his wife's special birthday celebration.
Chef Jodi was so happy to welcome the Firtel family into her home. "What a lovely family," said Chef Jodi. "I hope to see Judy back again for round three!"
We've been extra busy here at Lajollacooks4u...aside from our growing number of friendly faces in the kitchen, Chef Jodi and her team have been cracking down in hopes to churn out Lajollacooks4u's first ever cookbook…and just in time for the holidays! With help from close friend, Lisa Serban, a brilliant creative consultant who is serving as our food stylist, Chelsea Carpenter, a talented young chef with an eye for photography, to Dani Peterson, Chef Jodi's assistant and editor, the cookbook is sure to be a beautiful masterpiece. Make sure to stay tuned for all the great things to come!
