The Autumn season means endless amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables- and we love everything Garden Fresh! The only question is- how do you keep all of these delicious ingredients fresh? Chef Jodi is dishing out some useful kitchen tips to make it through the Fall season with your fresh fruits! You just might want to bookmark this page…and maybe take some notes:
And no, lemonade (although quite refreshing) does not do the trick. The uber acidic nature of pure lemon juice can be used for so many kitchen/cooking-purposes. Lately, we’ve been using it to keep our peeled pears and apples from browning. Chef Jodi says, “Simply soak your peeled pears and apples in some water mixed with lemon juice to keep your fruits’ skin looking beautiful.” #FLAWLESSfruits
Our Secret Ingredient of the Month appears in a mean, natural gnat catcher- which has come in handy during these awkwardly warm weather days! Chef Jodi says, “Simply pour 1/4 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar into a small glass. Cover the glass with cellophane, and poke small holes into the top. Gnats will be attracted to the (very strong) scent, and will fly in, but won’t be able to fly back out!”
Can’t wait for your pears and Fall fruits to ripen? Simply slip your fruits with a banana into a brown paper bag- and voila! Chef Jodi says, “The gases emitted from the bananas will naturally ripen pears and other fruits. You’ll have soft, juicy pears and sweet fruits before you know it.”
