November was quite the month to be thankful for…
Lajollacooks4u welcomed lovely groups of people from all over the country celebrating everything from big milestones to reconnecting with loved ones. Our kitchen was plentiful with happy memories this month, as too was the amount of love and support Chef Jodi received for her first cookbook, Lajollacooks4u: California Cuisine.
Lajollacooks4u began the month with a warm welcome from Sophia Hanson and her friends from Chicago. Sophia, along with her husband and four of their close couple friends, shared an exciting cooking and dining experience where they teamed up to create a delicious tapas menu with the help of Chef Jodi.
They made a handful of scrumptious appetizers celebrating cultures from all over the world. Dishes like roasted brussels sprouts with pancetta and parmesan, grilled shrimp skewers with salsa verde, and lamb sliders with tzatziki sauce were just a few of the awesome menu items they prepared that evening.
Each of the couples had lovely things to say about their time with Chef Jodi and Lajollacooks4u.
Jean and Ann Kozub were incredibly pleased with their outing at Lajollacooks4u, saying "What an awesome evening and a super fantastic event. Thank you so much Chef Jodi for the cooking lessons and the hospitality!"
Another couple, Ida and Patrick Haris, said they "loved everything" and that they "[couldn't] wait to recreate Chef Jodi's recipes back home!"
We adored having Sophia and her friends in the Lajollacooks4u kitchen, we truly hope to see them back again soon!
Jim and Kelly Bickford, a lovely couple from Denver, celebrated their love with a Lajollacooks4u style foodie adventure. With Chef Jodi as their guide, they toured Little Italy's bountiful farmers markets where they hand-picked the ingredients for their lunch menu.
They learned all about farm-to-table eating and California's delicious cuisine as they prepared some of the incredible recipes from Chef Jodi's new cookbook. The couple sipped wine and shared laughter as they prepared eggplant rollups with pesto and goat cheese, a beef tenderloin with an herbed mustard crust, garlic pomme frites with truffle oil and mouthwatering chocolate melting cakes for dessert.
The couple loved their afternoon spent mastering Chef Jodi's scrumptious Californian recipes.
"Thank you for a wonderful day complete with a farmer's market excursion in Little Italy and a fantastic meal! It was a pleasure learning from you. And thank you so much for opening up your beautiful home and patio to us!" said Kelly.
Bi-monthly cooking classes with Lajollacooks4u veteran Patty Uribe are still happening and we've been covering everything! Not only was there some amazing Indian cuisine this month, but we also did a little Thanksgiving preparation and taste-testing. YUM!
The first week's Indian menu was to die for, with dishes like salmon in bengali mustard sauce, pork vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, chana masala and basmati rice pilaf. Mmm, the exotic spices were out of this world.
A couple weeks later we tested some awesome Thanksgiving recipes from Chef Jodi's own personal stash. The Thanksgiving menu consisted of roasted turkey with herbs and shallots in a dijon gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, candied sweet potatoes with marshmallows, wild mushroom and leek stuffing, roasted carrots and parsnips, roasted brussels sprouts with pancetta, and finally a chipotle pumpkin pie with bourbon cream. WOAH. A whole lot of food and a whole lot of YUM!

Sophia Hanson who visited us at the beginning of the month purchased the cookbook during her couples' cooking class. She emailed Chef Jodi to tell her all about the Lajollacooks4u recipes she prepared for family members.
She whipped up an entire Lajollacooks4u menu including a Crusted Flounder with a Caper Vinaigrette, Sauteed Broccolini with Shitake Mushrooms, Cilantro Lime Rice, and Eggplant Rollups.
"OMG, my family went wild," she said. "Everything was amazing. I just had to tell you! We had a great pre-Thanksgiving meal. I am so glad I got your book!"
Another happy customer, Susan from San Diego, was eager to display her cookbook for everyone to see.
