Bram Wiley who met up with cousins traveling from Washington state, Alaska, Arizona as well as California kicked off the New Year at Lajollacooks4u. The kitchen was lit up with laughter and lots of storytelling as they prepared a variety of delicious dishes.
Cousin Leah from Alaska is also a certified chef, she loved the whole experience and brought a wealth of knowledge to our kitchen. The Wiley clan whetted their appetites with our fabulous truffle focaccia served with eggplant caponata and burrata. That was followed up with a hearty Cape Town Lamb served with roasted domino potatoes and sautéed Swiss char with artichokes filling out the rest of the main entrée.
As sweet as the reunion was that evening, it closed out with an equally sweet treat: seasonal pears blanched in wine with a pecan crumble.
We were so grateful to be a big part of their evening!
We welcomed our first team building the year!
Global pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb flew in their sales team to kickoff the year with fantastic feast centered around tapas. The twelve team members flew in from all over the US and cooked their way through a decadent tapas menu – complete with wine!
The group broke into two teams, cooking handheld friendly bites such as lamb sliders with a creamy tzatziki sauce.
What sounds better than a trip from Utah to gorgeous La Jolla, CA? A girls’ night out with the Kjar family. This lovely group of ladies warmed up the kitchen with their smiles as they feasted on a bevy of delicious food they all helped create.
Some highlights of the evening included a herb crusted chicken with a luscious and tangy caper vinaigrette and bevy of colorful sides.
Katie Kjar left a few kind words, “thanks for making our girls’ retreat so memorable, unique, tasty and so enjoyable!”
We hope to see these ladies again for another session soon.
Continuing on in January, we had another family reunion; this time with the Rothstein family. This lovely group traveled from Ohio, Arizona and farther up north from San Francisco.
Sheila and Scott were joined with their kids, Mark, Amanda and her boyfriend Jared. All made their way through four decadent courses, complete with wine.
The evening and family reunion was topped with chocolate melting cakes filled with oozing chocolate sauce.
Sheila had a wonderful time saying “thanks so much for sharing your love of cooking and wonderful cooking instructions!”
We loved hosting their reunion and meeting everyone.
We saw a familiar face in the kitchen: Commander Jim Neal with his wife Annette and friend Gary Chikami.
Back in 2015, Chef Jodi had a private cooking class in Jim’s home and this time around Jim, Annette and Gary got to experience first-hand what Lajollacooks4u is all about. The evening was a fun and intimate event featuring a South African menu with delicious Cape Town Lamb for the main course and freshly baked Cape Seed Bread!
Annette described the event as a “wonderful evening.”
We love seeing repeat visitors and hope Jim, Annette and Gary make this an annual event with us!
Lajollacooks4u has some fantastic readers and we’re always so overwhelmed with gratitude when they send in photos of the food they’ve made from the cookbook.
Last month, Mark and his wife Marie Franz dropped us a line from Ohio and submitted photos of them cooking up Chicken Arrabbiata. This cute couple relied on team work in the kitchen; Mark sweated the onions while Marie stirred the sauce.
Mark followed it up with a second dish from the cookbook! Check out his gorgeous Pear, Fig and Blue Cheese Tart. He looks like a natural in the kitchen!
Thanks for sending the photos in and remember to let us know when you’ve made something from the cookbook. We’d love to share your photos here.
Lajollacooks4u’s private and intimate setting provides a friendly environment where participants – team building and couples – can relax, sip some wine, and laugh together, while engaging in our unique cooking and dining experience.
