2020 has been a year like no other, which is why all of us need a pat on the back for getting through it. But who especially needs to be congratulated right now? Your employees. For the bulk of this year, they’ve been juggling childcare, errands and house maintenance, all while working from home. It makes sense, then, to take the time to make them feel appreciated and valued.
Here are some social-distancing ideas to implement at your company:
Spotlight Team Members on Social Media
With many of us working from home right now, spotlight your team members and the good work they do on social media. This can be an employee interview on the company blog or a shout-on on your company's LinkedIn page. Either way, this can be a really fun way to spread around the appreciation and recognition.
Offer Meaningful Rewards
Sure, the generic gift card gift is always appreciated. But sending a meaningful – and unexpected – gift is a great way to make your team members feel valued. Maybe it’s rewarding the team with a surprise day off or coordinating a virtual team gathering. Rewarding your team members with a thoughtful gift shows that you recognize and appreciate their hard work.
Implement Peer-Nominated Awards
Studies show that peer recognition has a positive impact on financial results. Therefore, try creating a system where everyone at the company can empower each other and recognize everyday wins and successes. A good way to do this is to have employees nominate each other for awards that reflect your company's core values, such as Best Communicator or Biggest Team Player.
Book a (Virtual) Holiday Party
Holiday parties are a great way for team members to come together, have fun and celebrate the year’s successes. But, since gathering together in-person probably won’t be happening this year, a great alternative is to go virtual! Virtual holiday parties are a creative way to recognize team members’ hard work this year; plus they help start the new year on a positive note.
