Earlier this month, Chef Jodi paid a visit to the Coastal Roots Farm, a nonprofit community farm and education center located in Encinitas.

The Farm is a center for education and community connection, offering hands-on learning about Jewish agricultural heritage, farming, gardening and environmental stewardship for people of all ages and backgrounds.  In addition to vegetable gardens and animal pastures, it also includes a food forest, compost, a plant nursery and a vineyard.

Since its inception in 2014, Coastal Roots Farm has donated over half of its harvest to community members who lack access to fresh food through its pay-what-you-can farm stands, Community Support Agriculture (CSA) program, and direct donations to local hunger relief organizations.

While there, Chef Jodi took a private tour with Sharon Goodson, Director of Philanthropic Strategy, and Anne Jaffe, one of the Farm’s board members, where she learned more about Coastal Roots’ mission and its many initiatives.

“The different types of programs available at Coastal Roots is truly remarkable,” said Chef Jodi.  “This reminds me of an Israeli Kibbutz, where people are working in harmony together and creating an incredible community.”
